so make sure you watch this space early next month and our website for further news . our regulars will know that ‘any excuse for a celebration’ and we’ll be there. with special guests, music, food and more, it will be a morning not to be missed. back to the present and andy and the vegetable stall is at last back in his usual spot outside again joining mikey and the fish stall and carla and her brilliant winterdale cheese. she has asked me to tell you that she will be bringing fresh unpasteurised milk when she can and i must say, having bought some last month, rice pudding with real milk is something to savour. they have also been joined by princess christian farm students with their eggs and other goodies and now that the better weather is here kefayat (our greek guest stall) will be arriving with his olives, marinated garlic and fresh feta cheese. not to mention his turkish delight and baklava. new potatoes will be in season this month to have with salads, as will watercress and peas – why not try james martin’s watercress and pea soup, with cream – looks good - must give it a whirl. or what about wonderful mackerel or sea trout with new potatoes, peas and a watercress sauce – just an idea! all so quick to cook with a minimum of effort. lamb is still top of the list for may, but why not try wood pigeon one day – go on, be adventurous. another meat you might consider is pork loin fillet – very lean and cooked whole or sliced and lightly fried is delicious. just ask corinne for her advice. whilst mentioning corinne, it was good to have her back with us at the beginning of april and happy for her and sam that baby noah is doing well. our grateful thanks go to annabel who helped us out so splendidly. for those who visited the market during the easter holidays, you will have seen the wonderful collage made by our younger visitors. masterminded by team member, anne hawkins, who painted the backdrop of windsor castle on our twelve feet long mural, the children coloured and drew, glittered and stuck their way to making the whole scene of the flag waving crowds welcoming the happy couple in their gold coach drawn by black horses with a host of guardsmen and yeoman warders in attendance. what a happy scene both in the market and on the mural. we must give great thanks to bill richardson for collecting materials and preparing the vast base for annie to do her stuff. where would we be without their great talents and willingness to put in so much work for our youngsters. i keep banging on about the tlc draw, but after having reported more hildenborough wins in this scheme last month, once again, i can report that our manager janet has won the £50 special prize to be spent at tonbridge farmers’ market in march. in our own draw, jacqueline dungay won the £10 market voucher for march. congratulations everyone. if you are the recipient of one of the tonbridge prizes, could you remember to let us know. from our market manager – janet richardson hildenborough farmers’ market is now into its 10 th year – it was june 2008 when dame kelly holmes opened the market and we launched with such enthusiasm. lots of things have happened and lots of people and stalls have come and gone, but the market team of helpers and our loyal core of stalls do still share that enthusiasm for local produce and the community. without doubt there are many people in hildenborough who come regularly to the market to shop. there are also our regular supporters who enjoy a cup of coffee and meeting with friends. we continually seek to keep the market vibrant, viable and interesting, but to do this we do need the support of more regular shoppers. although we use the church hall and enjoy the support of st. johns’ church, we are not financed or subsidised by the church. our costs and outgoings continue to rise; rent, insurance, advertising and general expenditure all have to be met. we already have the reputation of being the one of the friendliest farmers’ market in kent, so why not come along and buy some of our fantastic local produce. our prices and quality offer excellent value for money on your doorstep. the farmers’ market is a real community asset but it’s only with your support we can keep it that way. to return to the web site press the back arrow at the top of the screen.
